John Stuart Mill and Libya

by Ian on March 23, 2011

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things – the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which leads to the belief that nothing is worth war is far worse. A man who believes nothing is worth fighting for, nothing worth more than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no hope of being free unless made and kept so by better men than himself.

John Stuart Mill

Just requoting from the comments to an article in The Guardian Libya: Why was pacifism not given a chance? by Symon Hill.
